Atlassian, the Aussie ISV, has released Bamboo 2.3, the latest take on its cloud-supporting continuous integration (CI) server.

Bamboo automatically builds and tests code changes as they're committed so bugs don't pile up.

Bamboo 2.3 improves the widgetry's support for running "elastic build agents" in EC2, leveraging the Amazon cloud's latest improvements to speed build times and cut operating costs.

Bamboo is supposed to make it easy to scale a CI system on-premise or in EC2, and it reportedly integrates with the tools and processes that people are already using.

With the rev, Bamboo users can now select the EC2 availability zone where elastic agents will run, which can result in faster start-up times, lower data transfer costs, and the option of creating highly available build farms across multiple availability zones.

Atlassian says Bamboo can now take advantage of the new EC2 reservations feature that can also cut costs through lower hourly use fees.

Elastic build agents can be scheduled to launch then shut down based on known peaks in the demand for builds. Bamboo agent images can be customized to enable builds and tests to run using multiple elastic image configurations, with different operating systems, software and CPU levels.

Builds can also be prioritized now and users can manage tens or hundreds of build plans at once using the software's bulk-editing features.

Atlassian claims 1,000 customers for Bamboo including Motorola, Cisco, Mazda, BNP Paribas, Hilton Hotels and Apache Tapestry.

Using Bamboo in the cloud requires an Amazon Web Services account.
