Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Android Makes Inroads
AT&T is reportedly going to offer a Dell Android-based smartphone to U.S customers

AT&T is reportedly going to offer a Dell Android-based smartphone to U.S customers of its cellphone network next year, according to an unconfirmed piece in the Wall Street Journal.

Reuters says the thing will be a version of the Marvell Technology-designed oPhone "prototype" Dell showed off in China some weeks back.

The wire service says LG, Lenovo and Philips are also using the oPhone design.

The Journal says it'll have a touchscreen and a camera.

iSuppli figures smartphones are good for 235.6 million units worldwide next year, up close to 28% year-over-year.

Samsung says it'll be pushing an Android phone through Sprint Nextel and Google itself is partnering with Verizon Wireless to co-develop multiple Android phones. Two of them should hit market this year.

HTC pioneered the Android phone and Motorola is depending on it to save its bacon.
