Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

CloudBerry Explorer Freeware

CloudBerry Lab has released CloudBerry Explorer v1.7, a freeware application that allows users to manage files in Amazon S3 buckets just as they would on their local computers.

CloudBerry Explorer allows end users to accomplish simple tasks without special technical knowledge, automate time-consuming tasks to improve productivity.

With CloudBerry Explorer, Amazon S3 becomes an extension to your local storage. You are no longer limited to the classic data storage on your local drive(s). With CloudBerry Explorer, you can move files to Amazon S3 just as easily as managing them on your local drive(s).

Amazon recently added a support for private content to Amazon CloudFront content delivery network feature that let you control who can access your content (http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/connect/ann.jspa?annID=529). Now you can have detailed control over who is able to download your files from Amazon CloudFront. This optional feature lets you use Amazon CloudFront to deliver important digital assets that you prefer not to make publicly available. It is similar to Amazon S3 pre-signed URLs.

The new version of CloudBerry Explorer allows users to manage Amazon CloudFront Private Content CloudBerry Explorer makes it easier for non-programmers configure CloudFront origin access identity, secure private content in Amazon S3, create CloudFront distributions for Private Content, create policy documents , sign requests and generate secure URLs.

CloudBerry Explorer is designed to work on Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Windows 7. Microsoft PowerShell command line interface allows advanced computer users integrate Amazon S3 storage access with other routines.

CloudBerry Explorer 1.7 for Windows is a freeware. CloudBerry Explorer PRO costs $39.95 (US). You will continue to pay Amazon directly for their S3 charges.
