Verari Gets Bought by Founder

Within barely an inch of its life, blade pioneer Verari Systems – or at least most of its assets have been bought at auction by its original founder and CTO David Driggers and an investment group that means to restart it.

There was no hint of a price. The company will now bypass bankruptcy court.

It will be renamed Verari Technologies and focus on blade-based HPC solutions, modular containerized data centers and blade-based storage development efforts, its traditional stock-in-trade

The investment group has reportedly purchased all of Verari’s inventory, equipment and technologies and is offering immediate support to past Verari customers.

Driggers, CEO until 2006 when EMC veteran David Wright replaced him, said in a canned statement that “We have the opportunity to go back to our roots of being a consulting company that heavily partners to deliver custom solutions for our customers. The new Verari is going to build stronger partnerships with our customers while delivering the solutions they require. I’m a strong believer that companies are more successful when they listen and collaborate with their customers.”

Driggers and his investment friends have purchased all of Verari’s patents and IP including the company’s patented vertical cooling technology, BladeRack architecture and modular data center patents.

Its Forest containers, one of the industry’s bestselling portable data center solutions used occasionally by Microsoft, Qualcomm and NASA, as well as its BladeRack architecture, employ Verari’s patented vertical cooling technology to increase energy efficiency while reducing customers’ energy bills.

Driggers promises that the new Verari will push the acquired technologies.

“With the ever increasing compute and storage issues our customers are facing today,” he said, “I believe we are going to be well positioned to help them solve even the most demanding challenges.”

Verai collapsed on December 11 and laid off all of its staff. Driggers is now once again its chairman and CEO.
