AJAX Support Added To Opera Browser
AJAX Support Also Added to the Opera SDK, Says CEO

Opera CEO Jon S. von Tetzchner (pictured) has confirmed that Opera Software has added support for AJAX to both the Opera browser and software development kit (SDK).

von Tetzchner appears to be betting that AJAX will spur Opera's frontal assault on the embedded browser market, since an increasing number of devices now require full Web browsing and the ability to run web-based user interfaces, and it is a relatively fresh market with as yet no outright winner, circumstances which may favor an agile enterprise like Norway-based Opera.

"In addition to being a full Internet browser," von Tetzchner saus, "Opera is an execution environment for Web applications and dynamic user interfaces based on interoperable open Web technologies such as AJAX."

The Opera 8.5 SDK will support AJAX in Q1 of 2006.

BlueMint,

Opera has had great support for AJAX for a long time. AJAX has absolutely nothing to do with the AudioScrobber iTunes plugin.

Note that what the real news is (and which the journalist missed out on) that Opera now supports AJAX on mobile phones, TV-sets etc. This is a significant leap forward for these embedded environments which today is full of poor and proprietary solutions.
