Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Sybase Bases New Offerings On Quest Software Technology
New Release Enables Rapid Adoption of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0

"Our relationship with Quest Software underscores our commitment to providing ASE customers with the best database management and optimization solutions available," said  Kathleen Schaub (pictured) , VP of product marketing, Sybase Information Technology Solutions Group, as Sybase and Quest Software today announced the general availability of the Sybase SQL Expert Option and the Sybase Database Expert Option for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0.

Quest Software and Sybase have a long-standing relationship that began in 2001 when Quest began reselling Sybase PowerDesigner, the industry-leading modeling software, under the QDesigner brand name.

“We are very proud of our relationship with Sybase," said Larry Humphries, vice president, application and database management solutions, Quest Software. "Their selection of Quest solutions is a testament to our industry-leading technology. We understand the importance of Sybase technology, particularly in the financial sector, and are committed to supporting existing capabilities and developing new technologies for Sybase ASE — adding value for the Sybase customer.”

“Sybase Database Expert and Sybase SQL Expert will help speed the migration to ASE 15.0,”Schaub noted.

The Sybase Database Expert Option maximizes application performance by focusing on the factors that cause up to 90% of performance problems, including SQL statements, indexes and database changes, she said, adding:

"Sybase Database Expert diagnoses and manages the changes that affect the database environment, greatly increasing administrator productivity. In addition, Sybase Database Expert’s Migration Analyzer allows ASE customers to analyze and predict the outcome of a database migration from one version of ASE to another. This allows users to easily identify any potential SQL-related performance regression during migration."
The Sybase SQL Expert Option, Schaub explained, is a complete SQL performance tuning and optimization solution that pinpoints and rewrites problematic SQL code for developers and database administrators. "With its built-in SQL transformation engine, Sybase SQL Expert reduces the effort required to optimize problematic SQL and makes it easier for junior programmers to maximize performance," she said.

To achieve seamless integration with Sybase ASE Product management, engineering and QA teams from both companies worked closely on product direction, stress-testing and QA of Sybase Database Expert and Sybase SQL Expert, said Schaub and Humphries.

The Sybase Database Expert Option and the Sybase SQL Expert Option are available now and offered through Sybase, they added. Pricing for Sybase Database Expert starts at $9,595 per seat and pricing for Sybase SQL Expert starts at $4,995 per seat. Current Sybase SQL Expert customers planning an upgrade to Sybase ASE 15.0 should, said Schaub, contact their Sybase sales representative for any applicable upgrade discounts prior to migration.

For additional information, she added, prospective customers could call 1-800-8-SYBASE.
