OpenNebula 3.2 Beta Cloud Management Toolkit Is Out
Open-source toolkit for data center virtualization

OpenNebula, the open source cloud project managed by C12G Labs, has announced the availability of the first beta release of OpenNebula 3.2. OpenNebula is the Industry standard for on-premise IaaS cloud computing, offering the most feature-rich, flexible solution for the comprehensive management of virtualized data centers to enable private, public and hybrid (cloudbursting) clouds. OpenNebula interoperability makes cloud an evolution by leveraging existing IT infrastructure, protecting your investments, and avoiding vendor lock-in. This beta release is targeted at testers and users that would like to check the exciting new features that have been developed to meet the needs of our most demanding users. The new update of OpenNebula brings the following unique key features in cloud computing management:

  • Enhanced and easily customizable network management, now coupled with the VM life-cycle, with support for 8021.Q, OpenvSwtich and ebtables VLAN drivers
  • New firewalling functionality, flexible network definition, and new lease operations for users
  • Enhanced SunStone graphical interface
  • New functionality in the OCCI cloud interface
  • New pluggable authentication and authorization based on passwords, ssh rsa keypairs, X509 certificates or LDAP
  • Special authentication mechanisms for SunStone (OpenNebula GUI) and the Cloud Services (EC2 and OCCI), and notion of public users that are restricted to public cloud APIs
  • New APIS to manage cloud zones and virtual data centers

The OpenNebula project follows a rapid release development cycle to faster deliver new features and innovations to the community as well as better incorporate requirements of their users and feedback from the community. OpenNebula 3.2 fulfills the needs of IT organizations running production environments. OpenNebula is fully open-source technology released under the Apache 2.0 license.

About Ignacio M. Llorente
Ignacio M. Llorente, Ph.D in Computer Science (UCM) and Executive MBA (IE Business School), is a Full Professor (Catedratico) in Computer Architecture and the Head of the Distributed Systems Architecture Group at UCM, and Chief Executive Advisor and co-founder of the C12G Labs technology start-up. He held several appointments as independent IT expert for the European Commission and several companies and national governments; and consultant positions at ICASE NASA Langley and Sun Microsystems. Prof. Llorente is one of the pioneers and world's leading authorities on Cloud Computing. He has served on several Groups of Experts on Cloud Computing convened by international organizations, such as the European Commission and the World Economic Forum, and has contributed to several Cloud Computing panels and roadmaps. He is the Director of the OpenNebula Open-Source Project and participates in the main European projects in Cloud Computing. He founded and co-chaired the Open Grid Forum Working Group on Open Cloud Computing Interface. Prof. Llorente has given many keynotes and invited talks in the main international events in cloud computing, and has contributed to several cloud computing panels and roadmaps.
