Life Extension's Dr. Stacey Nottingham appears on The SUZANNE Show this week on Lifetime Television

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Stacey Nottingham from Life Extension, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla-based organization dedicated to the extension of the healthy human lifespan, returns to The SUZANNE Show this week to discuss carbohydrates and weight gain.  Her appearance, which is one in a series devoted to healthy living, airs Wednesday, November 21, at 7 a.m. (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television.

According to Dr. Nottingham, all carbohydrates are converted into sugar by the body and can lead to a blood sugar spike.  This causes a release of insulin from the pancreas to bring sugar levels back to normal, but if we overeat carbs, the pancreas produces higher amounts of insulin to compensate.  Excess insulin can either drive the sugar into the cells where it can be burned as fuel or it can be stored as fat.

Besides unsightly weight gain, sugar imbalances can lead to heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer.  Dr. Nottingham, who was once more than 100 pounds overweight, cautions viewers to avoid the carbohydrate rollercoaster and examine food labels to avoid overeating carbohydrates. "Just because a food is low in sugar doesn't mean it's low in carbs," says Dr. Nottingham. Keeping total carbohydrates low can help keep blood sugar levels stable, avoid excess insulin production, and help from storing fat.

Dr. Nottingham also recommends a variety of supplements such as green coffee extract, chromium, and cinnamon that control post-meal sugar spikes and curb cravings.  Integrating these simple changes can alter the way a person's body functions in as little as 2-3 weeks.  Tune in Wednesday for the entire story, or get more information by visiting http://www.lef.org/suzanneTV.
