PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwire) -- 01/08/13 -- The Arizona Lottery announces that the $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Fountain Hills was claimed today by a Fountain Hills resident. The winner, Lance Johns, matched all five numbers excluding the Powerball for the draw on Saturday, January 5. Johns is a regular Arizona Lottery player, but says that he almost didn't buy a ticket for this Powerball draw. He always plays one Quick Pick and four lines of his own numbers consisting of significant family numbers, like his and his wife's birth weights. He and his wife are both retired and plan to use their winnings toward the purchase of a new home and new cars. Johns purchased his $1 million winning Powerball ticket at the Circle K located at 17125 E. Shea Blvd. in Fountain Hills. The winning numbers were 26 - 30 - 49 - 51 - 54 PB 25. This win comes on the heels of the record-breaking $587.5 million Powerball jackpot winning ticket being sold at the 4 Sons Food Store also in Fountain Hills, and claimed by a Fountain Hills resident on December 7, 2012. "It is truly remarkable to have another top prize winner from Fountain Hills, especially so soon after the record-breaking jackpot win," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products, and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "We are thrilled that Powerball produced another new millionaire in Arizona. The money won in Arizona helps the economy and businesses here in our state." This is the sixteenth $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Arizona since $2 Powerball launched in January 2012. $2 Powerball offers many appealing features to players, including better overall odds and jackpots that grow bigger, faster. The starting jackpot doubled from $20 million to $40 million and the second prize for matching all five numbers, without the Powerball, increased from $200,000 to $1 million. Arizona Lottery players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Overall odds vary by game. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, these materials may be made available in an alternate format. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-NEXT STEP. Please Play Responsibly .
