(February 21, 2003) - BEA Systems, Inc. has just announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic JRockit 8.0, as well as recent benchmark results utilizing systems with Intel Xeon processors that confirm BEA's position as the owner of the world's fastest JVM. As the foundation of the industry's top-speed Java platform, the BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform, BEA and its JRockit technology continue to prove that enterprise customers can build a cost-effective, flexible application infrastructure without compromising performance. BEA WebLogic JRockit 8.0 is the first release of a standalone JVM optimized for the Intel Itanium 2 processor. In addition to enhanced support for the IA-32 architecture and further optimization for the BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform, BEA WebLogic JRockit 8.0 also delivers more robust features to increase productivity. For example, JRockit's improved profiling and debugging interfaces (JVMPI and JVMDI) can allow developers to better optimize application performance and quickly locate and resolve application issues. BEA WebLogic JRockit's implementations of these interfaces are optimized to work with BEA WebLogic Workshop as well as third-party development and profiling tools, including Intel VTune Performance Analyzer. The Intel VTune Performance Analyzer supports the BEA WebLogic JRockit virtual machine to allow software developers to identify bottlenecks in their Java code. Newly reported benchmark results for WebLogic JRockit give BEA top industry ratings for performance on a variety of cost-effective hardware and operating system combinations. Running the SPECjbb2000 benchmark, a benchmark that measures the performance of servers running typical Java business applications, BEA WebLogic JRockit achieved the number one and number two results on 4-way server systems running Windows and Linux. BEA WebLogic JRockit also achieved the number one result on the SPECjvm98 benchmark, which measures the performance of JVMs on client computers. (For complete details on benchmark results, see the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) Web site at www.spec.org/.)
