Borland Brings Application Life Cycle & J2EE Interoperability to .NET

The IDE will support the creation of all the major .NET project types, with an extra focus on application lifecycle management, via tight integration with Borland's other products, such as Together. It is expected to be available mid-summer and will ship in four versions: Personal ($69), Professional ($999), Enterprise ($1799), and Architect ($2499). All product versions will ship with the Borland Data Provider for ADO.NET - a managed provider that allows access to multiple data sources (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) via a common object model. Furthermore, the Enterprise and Architect versions of the IDE will ship with Borland's Enterprise Core Object libraries, which extend the .NET Framework to provide additional features such as automatic object versioning, persistence, etc. Janeva is a design-time tool and run-time library designed to allow .NET applications to seamlessly interoperate with systems exposing back-end, server-based component functionality over IIOP. One example of this might be a Windows desktop client written in C# that serves as a front-end to a suite of C++ business objects running on another machine in a CORBA-based application server. Another example might be an ASP.NET application using Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) running under WebLogic, WebSphere, or some other Java Application Server. Pricing and availability for Janeva have not yet been announced. It is expected, however, that there will be both a one-time developer fee for use of the design-time tools, as well as a run-time royalty for each copy of the IIOP library that is redistributed. In addition, Borland has licensed ComponentOne Studio Enterprise (.NET and ASP.NET) to be included in Borland® C#Builder. Customers who purchase Borland C#Builder for the Microsoft® .NET Framework will receive a special integrated edition of ComponentOne Studio Enterprise that includes development and deployment licenses for all ComponentOne Studio Enterprise .NET (WinForms) and ASP.NET (WebForms) components. Registered users will have access to bonus software, which includes a complementary quarter of updates, ComponentOne Studio for ActiveX® and ComponentOne Doc-To-Help®. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
