China Unicom CDMA

Sybase announced that it will provide the database management software to support the billing system for one of the largest telecommunications providers in China, China Unicom's CDMA. China Unicom serves over 20 million GSM mobile phone subscribers and has the only license from China's government to provide next-generation CDMA service. China Unicom expects to have over 50 million CDMA subscribers in three years.

Third Quarter Earnings

Sybase reported third-quarter pro forma earnings per share (EPS) of $0.20 on a diluted basis, exceeding the analyst consensus estimate by $0.02 per share. For the same period in 2000 the company announced pro forma EPS of $0.29 on a diluted basis. Total revenues for the third quarter were $226.3 million, compared to revenues for the third quarter last year of $239.1 million.
