10/30 - Sybase announced that Gartner Dataquest has recognized Sybase PowerDesigner as the market-share leader in database modeling with higher product license revenues than top competitors. Sybase PowerDesigner, an all-in-one modeling and design solution for enterprises that need to build or reengineer business applications quickly, cost-effectively, and consistently, increased its market share to 39% in 2002, reaching the top position in license revenue.

Earnings
10/28 - Sybase announced net income on a pro forma basis for the third quarter was $27.2 million, or earnings per share of $0.28 on a diluted basis (EPS), exceeding First Call consensus EPS estimates of $0.25. Net income for the third quarter calculated in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) was $22.0 million, or EPS of $0.23.

Korean Solutions Center
10/22 - Sybase announced that subsidiary Sybase Korea Ltd. and LG CNS, a systems integration and services company, opened the LG CNS Sybase Solutions Center at the LG CNS headquarters in Seoul, Korea.

Asia Pacific User Conference 2003
11/5 - Sybase hosted its annual Asia Pacific User Conference (APUC) 2003 in Seoul, November 5-7, with more than 2,000 executives, IT managers, developers, database administrators, and partners from around the world. Keynotes on the latest technology trends were presented by business intelligence industry expert, Dan Meers of The Inmon Meers Group; Korea's IT leaders, Samsung SDS and LG CNS; and Sybase executives.

John Chen, chairman, CEO, and president of Sybase, previewed the company's Unwired Enterprise initiative. Unwired Enterprise solutions combine data management technology to transform data into useful, relevant, and valuable information; and integration and mobile technology to ensure information is free-flowing and accessible, giving people the freedom to work anytime, anywhere.

Government Projects in China
11/6 - Sybase has won two Chinese provincial government tenders from the Heilongjiang Provincial Labor and Social Security Department and Yunnan Economic Information Center.

At the annual user conference in Korea, Sybase said it is supporting the Heilongjiang Social Security System (HSSS) project, which covers the management of labor and social security operations in 13 regions and cities in 68 counties. The total number of people covered in the system is about eight million.

The database is anticipated to store five years' worth of data with a maximum storage space of two to three terabytes. Supported by Sybase's enterprise edition of its intelligent data management system, Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 12.5, the system allows users to utilize their existing hardware and equipment, thus minimizing the investment required.

10/20 - iAnywhere Solutions, a subsidiary of Sybase, announced the next generation of Mobile Sales, which provides sales professionals with quick, easy access to business-critical information using handheld devices. Mobile Sales helps organizations accelerate the adoption of existing customer relationship management (CRM) solutions such as Siebel by enabling sales professionals to access these systems anywhere, anytime. New features include workflow configuration capabilities to simplify navigation and key performance indicators that enable businesses to measure the usage and effectiveness of their mobile deployments.

SMB Toolkit
10/22 - iAnywhere Solutions, a subsidiary of Sybase, and Intel Corporation announced plans to further the development of mobilized software for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The companies unveiled a toolkit that will enable software developers to deliver applications for SMB mobile computing and Wi-Fi users. Each kit will include iAnywhere market-leading mobile enterprise software, an Intel Centrino mobile technology-based mobile PC, an Intel XScale technology-based handheld, and a wireless LAN access point.
