IBM and Tech-Partners Team on New Digital Media Delivery Solution

(June 4, 2003) - A new digital media solution from IBM allows any organization, in any industry to quickly and efficiently deliver rich media including streaming video to geographically dispersed audiences. IBM, Cisco Systems, and other technology partners, including Media Publisher Inc. (MPI), have combined forces to offer The Digital Media Delivery Solution (DMDS). The solution, part of the IBM Digital Media Factory, is an integrated set of capabilities that includes content delivery networks, content management, and commerce, providing a superstructure for digital media distribution capabilities. DMDS provides streaming technology that helps customers leverage digital media in every phase of their business lifecycle. The underlying technology has applications for any organization looking to distribute rich media, and telecommunications service providers can offer DMDS as a managed service to their corporate customers. DMDS allows service providers to create advantages through: differentiated services offerings, network cost savings, and efficient use of existing network infrastructure. New services that can be offered include corporate communications, corporate training, and content selling. DMDS includes DB2 Content Manager IBM WebSphere Digital Media Enabler, Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM eServers. IBM Global Services can provide overall planning, installation, and testing. Other technology components can include IBM Network Attached Storage, WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal, or WebSphere Commerce Server.
