Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Altaworks Delivers New Systems Test Tools in Panorama 2.5
Altaworks Delivers New Systems Test Tools in Panorama 2.5

(June 18, 2003) - Altaworks Panorama 2.5 has just been released, with new tools and features that enable performance analysts and quality assurance (QA) professionals to create a detailed performance profile of an application during system and stress testing. By using Panorama early in an application's lifecycle in combination with load test tools, companies can reduce the time and cost of isolating system performance problems before going into production, ensuring the highest quality application when deployed for end-users.

Unlike competing products in the J2EE systems management space, Altaworks Panorama views the entire application and its infrastructure (the Web server, application server, and databases) as a complete system, analyzing performance and isolating problems that are often complex and interrelated. As part of this overarching systems test approach, Panorama complements load generation tools like RadView Software's WebLOAD, which alert test engineers as to when applications underperform in certain usage scenarios. New features in Panorama 2.5 include:

  • New summary performance charts that work in conjunction with load test tools, for QA and systems test professionals to easily visualize which system components or elements of an application perform poorly with under heavy workloads, or the point at which a throughput plateau is reached.
  • New systems test analytics that facilitate calibration experiments and comparison of step load tests with locked dynamic baselines.
  • Easy time period navigation so QA professionals can easily recall views associated with a specific historical time range, named load test, or workload peak, and create new metric views in that time range.
  • New data adapter support including for network devices or software products with an SNMP agent and Apache Web server per document, protocol, and handler metrics.

Panorama 2.5 is currently available to U.S. companies. Pricing is based on the number of servers, with an entry-level price of $34,000 for four servers and $53,000 for eight servers. The price includes a Panorama management console, managed node instrumentation, and three days of Altaworks Professional Services assistance to train systems test individuals and customize the solution for a customer's specific requirements and needs.
