Mainsoft Corporation announced that Opal Future Technologies
Inc. was named to the top ten of IDG's InfoWorld 100 Most Innovative Corporate
Solutions for 2007. The annual awards honor IT projects that demonstrate the
most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals.
Using Mainsoft software, Opal crossed the .NET-Java EE
software standards divide to consolidate eight pension fund software systems
running on a variety of disparate platforms, into a unified, rich end-user
environment running on an open standards-based IBM WebSphere Portal
environment. Mainsoft's .NET Extensions for WebSphere Portal allowed Opal's
team of Microsoft® developers to quickly integrate critical .NET applications
and services directly onto the portal, without having to rewrite the applications
in Java.
"Whether ushering legacy systems into the agile era or
revolutionizing how their companies leverage technology to meaningful ends,
this year's winners are both inspiration and proof that striking a new path in
IT can reap deep organizational rewards," said InfoWorld Senior Editor
Jason Snyder.
In a two-phased approach, Opal gave more than 500 government
employees and pension fund managers single sign-on, role-based access to a
uniform set of tools and applications to administer the funds. Phase two,
scheduled for deployment in February 2008, opens the portal to three million
pension fund account holders, who will be able to access their account balances
and reports online as well as adjust contribution levels and allocations to
different investment options.
"We applaud Opal's recognition as one of InfoWorld's
Top 10 most innovative corporate solutions for 2007," said Yaacov Cohen,
president and CEO, Mainsoft. "Opal joins a growing number of organizations
that are integrating .NET and Java assets into an open, scalable Java EE
architecture."
