Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

TopQuadrant Delivers Visual Scripting Language for the Semantic Web
SPARQLMotion Allows Non-Programmers to Create Semantic Web Applications

TopQuadrant announced SPARQLMotion, a visual scripting language that allows people without programming skills to create semantic Web applications. With SPARQLMotion, end users can integrate data sources, run queries on the combined data, and create information mash-ups and reports on an as-needed basis - all without assistance from the IT department. Additionally, SPARQLMotion is compliant with and utilizes the W3C standard SPARQL.

“SPARQLMotion puts the power of data integration where it should be - in the hands of end users and domain experts,” said Holger Knublauch, vice president, product development, TopQuadrant. “Until now, it has been necessary for application developers to predict and hardwire the data sources, searches, queries and reports that end users will utilize within a particular application. This approach has significantly limited the output from Business Intelligence and other enterprise applications. SPARQLMotion gives end-users the freedom to dynamically merge data sources as needed and create one-of-a kind applications.”

SPARQLMotion is a visual scripting language for semantic data processing. Visual scripts can be displayed and edited graphically by people without programming skills. End users can chain together processing steps to form complex processing pipelines. Data processing pipelines can be used to merge, search, query and mash-up data as well as to create a report or information dashboard.

SPARQLMotion is supported by TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition. TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition, an extended version of the TopBraid Composer (standard edition), can be used to edit and execute SPARQLMotion scripts in conjunction with underlying domain and data models.

SPARQLMotion is also supported by TopBraid Live, TopQuadrant’s Semantic application deployment platform. Within TopBraid Live, end-users can create simple applications using SPARQLMotion. For example, an end-user could create a script that takes data from various sources and news feeds on the web and display it on a map. By using TopBraid Live, this script can be published on the Web so that anyone can view the resulting map. SPARQLMotion support in the TopBraid Suite includes over 50 flexible modules implementing a comprehensive range of data inputs, outputs and transformations.
