Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Wind River Plans Linux Platform for MIDs
Wind River Says It's Collaborating with Intel and Will Develop an Open Moblin-based Linux Platform for Atom-bearing MIDs

Wind River says it’s collaborating with Intel and will develop an open, extensible Moblin-based Linux platform for Atom-bearing MIDs.

Both open source and commercial versions should be available next year.

The commercial Wind River Linux Platform for Mobile Internet Devices is supposed to be a full-featured, commercial-grade Linux platform that includes a Linux distribution, middleware and mobile applications that deliver rich Internet and media experiences.

Wind River says it will contribute code to Moblin.org, the open source community project where Moblin-based technologies are developed.

Wind River and Intel are already supposed to be joined in an Atom initiative targeting the automotive industry.

According to Strategy Analytics, sales of Mobile Internet Devices should exceed $17 billion a year worldwide by 2014. And ABI Research expects more than 90 million Mobile Internet Devices will ship worldwide by 2012.

Wind River reorganized in February to chase high-growth markets, such as mobile handsets like Android, mobile Internet devices, automotive infotainment and network equipment.
