Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Parallels Aims at Internal, Channel Clouds
Beloussov Expects To Play In Both the Internal and Channel Clouds

Parallels CEO Serguei Beloussov figures Google could dominate the cloud – the question is how much – with Microsoft at least a close second and maybe Apple can wrestle the rest of the wannabes like IBM, HP, Facebook, Adobe and EMC for third place. Then comes the internal clouds, where VMware tends to play, and the channel clouds.

Beloussov expects to play in both the internal and channel clouds.

That’s why Parallels is setting up a new fee-based SaaS FastTrack Program so ISVs can offer their software as a service and satisfy SMB demand for on-demand applications.

Parallels says its scheme involves no development or rewriting of code, merely use of its virtualization and automation technology along with standards such as the Application Packaging Standard (APS), which enables ISVs and service providers to publish, package, provision and update the format of solutions for the SaaS model.

There are Standard, Premium and Ultimate membership levels.

The FastTrack Standard level is structured for ISVs who have one application they need assistance with and want more visibility for. Premium is geared toward ISVs with one or more applications that want rapid time-to-market with promotions and connections to C-level execs in the service provider channel. Ultimate is targeted at ISVs that are new to SaaS and want to learn about the Service Provider industry and business models.

ISVs can also work with Parallels and offer their applications through Parallels Virtualization and Automation products or work with specific Service Providers in Parallels SaaS Enablement Programs for a more structured way to offer their applications to end users.
