Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Intel Brands Nehalem
Intel Says its Upcoming Nehalem Desktop Chips Will Be Branded Intel Core Processors

Intel Corporation says its upcoming Nehalem desktop chips, due to start rolling out in Q4, will be branded Intel Core processors. The first members of the new architecture family, including an Extreme Edition, will have a telltale “i7’ handle attached so they’ll officially be Intel Core i7 processors.

Apparently Intel will use several new identifiers as different products come to market over the next year. These identifiers should reportedly be some indication of the chip’s power.

In a canned statement Sean Maloney, the head of Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group, said, “The Core name is and will be our flagship PC processor brand going forward. Expect Intel to focus even more marketing resources around that name and the Core i7 products starting now.”

Intel has used the Core designation for older chips like the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad, and figures capitalize on the “awareness, preference and market momentum” already behind the name.

It said a blue Core i7 processor brand logo will go on high-performance desktop PCs with a separate black logo for the top-of-the-line Extreme Edition. Intel will include processor model numbers to differentiate each chip.
