Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Google CEO Says Yahoo-Google Deal’s a Go
Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, Told the Press that Google Wil Start Putting Search Ads on Yahoo's Site Around October 11th

In the absence of the regulators investigating the proposed Yahoo-Google deal saying either “aye” or “nay,” Google CEO Eric Schmidt told the press yesterday that Google will start putting search ads on Yahoo’s sites on or about October 11, the implementation date set by their agreement. To delay any longer would be to lose money, he said.

Google delayed the launch three or four month to give regulators time to look at the deal. Schmidt said was designed to meet US antitrust laws.

Schmidt blamed Microsoft for stirring up opposition to the deal, which is now being reviewed by the European Commission as well as the Justice Department, Canadian authorities and nearly a dozen states attorneys general. The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) in the US, the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) out of Paris and the UK-based Institute of Practitioners in Advertising want it blocked.

Schmidt also took part of the blame. Google hasn’t explained the Yahoo deal well, he said, denying that it would cause prices to rise for advertisers

Google’s determination doesn’t change the fact that the DOJ has hired outside counsel to put together a possible legal challenge and could move for an injunction.

Schmidt indicated Google would likely resist any conditions the agency might try to put on the deal, claiming delicate mechanism may not work otherwise. “We spent five months negotiating the terms of this contract,” he is quoted as saying, “the details matter enormously.”
