Industry News Desk Cloud Computing Is for Capitalist Pigs - Raul Castro
Americans should join the Cuban revolution and make hardware, software, and cloud computing free
Oct. 27, 2008 06:45 PM
Castro continued: "In Cuba we provide free health care, free food coupons, free housing and if we had any computers on the island, we would provide free laptops and Internet too. So, I agree with Richard Stallman that Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and all American companies pushing this new Cloud Computing concept are among the axis of evil who want to hook you like Coca-Cola and McDonald's. Why would you pay Amazon for their cloud computing service, if you can hassle them to give it to you for free? Americans should join the Cuban revolution and make hardware, software, including cloud computing, free. By doing this, the government can hand out laptop coupons in supermarkets next to the bread aisle. Think about it!" In an interview published on Monday, Richard Stallman says "The concept of using web-based programs like Google's Gmail is worse than stupidity." Cloud Computing - where IT power is delivered over the internet as you need it, rather than drawn from a desktop computer – has gained currency in recent years. Large Internet and technology companies including Google, Microsoft and Amazon are pushing forward their plans to deliver information and software over the Net. But Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation and creator of the computer operating system GNU, said that cloud computing was simply a trap aimed at forcing more people to buy into locked, proprietary systems that would cost them more and more over time. "It's stupidity. It's worse than stupidity: it's a marketing hype campaign." Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
