FALLS CHURCH, Va., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CSC (NYSE: CSC)
announced today that the New York State Department of Health, Office of Health
Insurance Programs has extended the company's contract to support the state's
Medicaid management information system, known as eMedNY. The original contract
was awarded to CSC in 2000 to develop and operate the award-winning processing
and reporting system. The new extension is valued at $322 million over a
three-year period.
Under the terms of the extension, CSC will continue to serve as the fiscal
agent for New York's Medicaid program, which annually processes more than
350 million claims and generates payments in excess of $40 billion. In
addition, CSC manages the New York Medicaid Web site, the program's largest
data center operations and the statewide Medicaid provider telecommunications
network. These systems -- including eligibility verification, service
authorization and pharmacy claims processing -- are provided on a 24x7x365
basis. CSC also operates a call center, which handles and receives nearly a
million telephone calls a year, and the claims processing unit that performs
digital imaging and data conversion of paper documents.
"We are proud to continue our 22-year relationship with the New York State
Department of Health to serve the Medicaid recipients and providers of the
state," said James W. Sheaffer, president of CSC's North American Public
Sector line of business. "This decision is a true testament to the confidence
that the department has in CSC's ability to run the largest, most complex and
technically sophisticated Medicaid solution in the U.S. CSC's extensive
expertise across the entire healthcare continuum has enabled the state to
improve New York Medicaid service, increase workplace efficiency and save
taxpayers millions of dollars."
The New York State Department of Health is responsible for the state's
entire Medicaid program, which is administered by the Office of Health
Insurance Programs. More than four million recipients receive critical health
services through this program and more than 70,000 medical providers
participate in providing their services.
