Fujitsu Introduces the U-Scan Mini-Carousel Self-Checkout Unit
By: Business Wire
Jan. 6, 2009 10:27 AM
Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today introduced the U-Scan® Genesis Mini-Carousel unit, a flexible, four-bag carousel station that connects to Fujitsu’s modular U-Scan Genesis self-checkout systems. Measuring 37 inches by 37 inches, the Mini-Carousel is 28 percent smaller than the standard U-Scan Genesis Carousel unit and 38 percent smaller than prior U-Scan carousel models, yet it offers sizeable bagging capacity. In addition to the four bags on the carousel, the system features a top-mounted bag scale/shelf that accommodates up to four paper or reusable bags and an optional in-base integrated paper bag storage area. “With retail floor space averaging $200-400 per square foot, many retailers want to add more self-checkout units without sacrificing merchandising space,” said Paul Burel, director of U-Scan solutions at Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. “Because the Mini-Carousel is smaller, some retailers can install three units in approximately the same area that before could only fit two standard units, thus yielding up to a 50 percent improvement in space utilization, as well as enhanced self-checkout throughput.” U-Scan Genesis is Fujitsu’s latest self-checkout product family, offering retailers enhanced flexibility, scalability, reliability and usability. Some advanced features include high-capacity units, a space-saving footprint, ATM-style “follow me” LED lighting, more intuitive customer interfaces, “above scanner” bill and coin accepting and dispensing units, and multi-item scanning. The U-Scan Genesis Mini-Carousel will be demonstrated at Fujitsu Booth #411 at the National Retail Federation (NRF) 98th Annual Convention and Expo, Jan. 12-13 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
