Search News Desk Will Microsoft’s Spider Have Any Sting?
Microsoft has been testing it internally since early March

By all accounts - including the Wall Street Journal - Microsoft's fabled remake of its search engine is supposed to make its public debut at the Journal's D7 coffee klatch next week in California. Code named Kumo, Japanese, we've been led to believe, for both spider and cloud, Microsoft has been testing the thing internally since early March. It's supposed to find more relevant results apparently by organizing what it finds into groups to save time. Microsoft is reportedly going to throw a lot of ad dollars at it.
Yahoo, meanwhile, is going to try to answer searches with more factual data like addresses and pictures rather than simply web site links. comScore gave Google 64.2% of all U.S. searches in April, up 0.5% from March, a personal best; Yahoo is down 0.1% to 20.4% and Microsoft was down fractionally to 8.2%, a new low. And searches were up 3% to 14.8 billion. Microsoft is reportedly still trying to buy Yahoo's search and advertising technology. Where Kumo, the nominal Live Search upgrade, would then fit is unclear. It is believed Microsoft means to release Kumo in June. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
